About

Crystal and Judge are a married musical duo, whose songs reverberate with the love they share for each other and for the Blue Ridge mountains of Western Carolina, where they call home.

Their music has been referred to as folk, Americana and even ‘New Time’ , which Judge explains as a music form resting on the tradition of Appalachian roots music, while not being bound to old time styling. Crystal’s song writing is relatable and contemplative, often exploring the trials and blessings of a life focused on simplicity and the environment of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Crystal plays rhythm guitar and provides a folk base for Judge’s lead banjo and guitar. Judge does not play three-finger or claw hammer, but a style that is unique to a long time guitar player turned banjo picker.

Crystal and Judge have a wide and varied set of influences, ranging from The Beatles to Belle and Sebastian, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Jim Croce, Doc Watson, Tom Petty, Buddy Guy, Goose Creek Symphony, The Weakerthans and Clarence Ashley, to name a few. Whether at an outdoor festival or an intimate venue, this duo is a delight to hear live, so come to a show!
